Casillero del Diablo invites you to BeLight

Lower alcohol Rosé 2023.

Casillero del Diablo BeLight Rose These days we are more and more looking for wines to enjoy with friends but without the alcohol levels of the traditional styles. I have tried no-alcohol wines and I confess I am not keen, but Casillero del Diablo invites you to enjoy BeLight Lower alcohol Rosé 2023. It fills the niche of reducing alcohol but retaining taste and character.

But the name Casillero del Diablo has long intrigued me. No, it isn’t a company producing wine for Halloween, although it does have a supernatural story. It is said that more than a century ago the founder of the winery, Don Melchor Concha y Toro, hid a prized collection of wines in his personal cellar, protected behind a wrought iron gate. However, over time he noticed that bottles would disappear. His secret cellar had been discovered and the locals were evidently helping themselves.

The devil had moved in

Don Melchor found a solution to his diminishing wine selection by turning to the region’s folklore. His neighbours were steeped in superstition, and that gave him the opportunity to spread the rumour of strange nocturnal goings-on that could only be explained by the fact that the devil had moved into his cellars. Thus Casillero del Diablo was born!

BeLight Rosé 2023 has just 65 calories per serving, making this a good choice for those who want to consume less. It has only 8.5% alcohol, making it appealing to folks who want to enjoy long convivial summer evenings and still remember it the next day.

Casillero del Diablo achieves the lower calorie and lower alcohol by using early-ripening varieties of grapes, which means less sugars to turn into alcohol. The wine still retains all the elements which we appreciate. There are lush summer berries and white blossoms on the nose. On the palate it’s dark berries with well-balanced acid, making it a good wine for pairing with light salads, shellfish and white meat.

Casillero del Diablo BeLight Rosé would be ideal for a summer drinks party. Its pale salmon hue is attractive and speaks of flowery dresses and Panama hats. Serve this wine well-chilled as a pre-dinner drink with a few vegetarian canapes.

Casillero del Diablo’s BeLight is available from Tesco nationwide from 5th August, from £7 (£6 on promotion).
