Elevate your drinks.
It’s about twins and pairings. I was intrigued, as I am a twin myself – although likely old enough to be the grandmother of this delightful duo. Born and raised in the Netherlands, Raissa and Joyce De Haas have founded Double Dutch, a company offering distinctive mixers and cocktail bases in convenient and delicious fashion.
Cocktails are big business, and Raissa and Joyce realised there was a gap in the market for quality and innovative mixers to inspire both bar and home mixologists and their audiences. They began to experiment by pairing their own unique mixers such as Cucumber and Watermelon, and Pomegranate and Basil with a range of spirits, and the duo became known as the ‘tonic twins’. But they have plenty of business accolades to go with that moniker – Foodpreneur Award from Richard Branson in 2015 and Best Adult Soft Drink Award at the World Beverage Innovation Awards in 2016. In fact, these ladies have achieved 78 awards to date.
Non-alcoholic, alcoholic, low alcohol
Double Dutch now offer a range of 11 tonics and mixers. They pair wonderfully with spirits, but the advantage is that they will also be appreciated by those who want a non-alcoholic or low alcohol drink instead of the more predictable cocktail. These versatile bottles are perfect for a summer picnic, when perhaps a few sippers might be driving yet still want to enjoy adult drinks.
I have tried the Double Dutch Cocktail Soda Selection which includes Bloody Mary Soda and Margarita Soda. These mixers make for simple cocktail preparation, and particularly when one is entertaining a crowd. Look like a pro with little effort. Rim some glasses with sugar and slice a lime or two. Trim some celery and skewer a few cherry toms. Wait for the compliments.
Double Dutch mixers have flavour and character and are well worth seeking out this summer. They are available through Waitrose, Ocado and Tesco, and are bound to be this year’s al fresco sensation.
