Etna is a DOC that covers the slopes of Mount Etna which dominates the landscape of the fascinating island of Sicily. It was the very first DOC on the island, created in the late 1960s.
Quality red wine from Sicily
Feudo di Mezzo is the product of Nerello Mascalese, a blend of two very Sicilian grape varieties. These vines are 25-30 years old. They are the typical grapes for quality red wines from Sicily’s east coast. It is a delightful wine of character, being aged for 14-16 months in French oak casks. The resulting wine is ruby red and dry. It offers a slightly floral nose with plenty of fruit. The palate is vibrant, and displays pleasing minerality, berries, lemons and balanced tannins. It’s a medium-bodied wine with a long finish.
Feudo di Mezzo DOC Etna 2020 Rosso by Cottanera is quite one of the best bottles of red I have reviewed in a while. It’s a versatile wine and works perfectly with vegetarian dishes of umami-rich mushrooms, hearty roasts of pork and beef, and robust cheeses. It’s well worth seeking out.
