The St Columba’s Hospice Care Cookbook.
Featuring over 35 delicious recipes from a wide range of celebrities and local chefs, Generous is a book to celebrate and inspire through the power of food. Published to raise awareness and funds for St Columba’s Hospice Care, Generous is about recognising the local people and hospitality industry in Edinburgh and East Lothian who have supported the hospice and its community over the years. The book features several household names, many of whom are local, who have each shared a favourite recipe for readers to recreate at home. You’ll find a recipe for Normandy Tart by the iconic Dame Prue Leith; delicious and easy to make BBQ Pulled Pork Buns from Sir Chris Hoy; Carlo Contini’s Spaghettini Sciuè Sciuè courtesy of Mary Contini OBE; and Corned Beef Stovies by Val McDermid – all contributed in support of the wonderful work done by St Columba’s Hospice Care.
Generous is as much a cookbook as a recognition of the many wonderful people who give their time and effort to this charity while raising funds and awareness, whether they are staff, volunteers, or members of the public. The title of the book was chosen to highlight this supportive community, from pet owners whose dogs become much-loved visitors through the Therapy Dogs programme to Compassionate Neighbours who bring friendship and light into the lives of patients living at home – both of which you can find out more about in the book. To showcase their fantastic new book, St Columba’s Hospice Care will be running a promotion from Thursday 7th September to Saturday 9th September at Iona Café at the Hospice. Those who have pre-ordered the book or purchase it at the event will be able to collect their copy from the café along with a complimentary hot drink and slice of cake; the launch is open to the public so be sure to pop along and show your support if you’re in the area!
Generous also highlights the important connections between food and care with several spotlight stories about how cooking, baking, or enjoying something to eat can create joy. Recipes include hearty dinners such as Sean Lineen’s Moroccan Chicken, light lunches like Quiche Comtoise from local French deli Chez Roger, cocktails including The Alchemist’s Next-spresso Martini, and plenty of other sweet treats, from The Walnut’s Treacle Tart to Pup Cakes for your four-legged friends!
Whether you have experienced the incredible care and support provided by St Columba’s Hospice Care, or simply enjoy trying delicious new dishes, this book is a must have for any home kitchen.
