The Hairy Bikers’ Brilliant Bakes

Sweet and Savoury Treats.

hairy bikers brilliant bakesBaking has really taken off. The Lockdown gave people time to have a go at kitchen pursuits, and they realised they could actually do it. So, all you need are some tempting recipes. The Hairy Bikers’ Brilliant Bakes is a book full of ideas.

The recipes here are sensible. Nothing is too cheffy. These are goods that we can imagine ourselves making and enjoying. All the ingredients are readily available and nothing outrageously expensive, well, apart from the butter.

I have a host of pick-of-the-book recipes although I would be happy to eat my way from cover to cover. Mac and Cheese Pie is hearty and will be loved by the whole family. Mincemeat and Marzipan Twists are a simple and interesting take on a traditional mince pie. A no-bake bake is the Chocolate Fridge Cake. Get the kids to help with this one. Goats Cheese Filo Cigars are great for entertaining. All one needs are a couple of these and a glass of fizz to start a rather stylish dinner party. Vindaloo Sausage Rolls fall into the same category. Custard Tart and Sussex Pond Pudding are both classics. Oatcakes are perfect for afternoon tea.

The Hairy Bikers’ Brilliant Bakes has a lovely selection of breads too. There is a simple Sourdough loaf; Cheese and Chorizo Tear-and-Share Buns are perfect for lunch; Cinnamon Rolls make a great breakfast and especially when one has weekend guests; Lahmacun is a topped flatbread so a meal in itself.

I usually avoid celebrity cookbooks, but The Hairy Bikers’ Brilliant Bakes is an all-round winner. A perfect Christmas gift, but buy two. You will want to keep one.
